    Crosswalk safety concern--
Automobile traffic often fail to yield to pedestrians/bikes waiting at either the start of the crosswalk or actively crossing the crosswalk in both day and night conditions. Cars often speed through that intersection, resulting in numerous close calls and an especially precarious crossing environment for a high volume of vulnerable road users daily. Only sometimes (less during winter months) there are two reflective "State law Yield to Ped within Crosswalk" signs that usually sit on the median of College St at each edge of the crosswalk, on either side of Wall St. But these reflective median signs are often moved out of place, removed, or neglected. Additionally, there are street signs with a pedestrian figure icon on the sidewalk for each side of traffic respectively, but they are recessed far back from the street, often blocked by parked cars, blocked by the adjacent tree, and bent facing the wrong way. I also believe part of the problem may have to do with vehicles speeding from both Grove and Elm St intersections, and, with lines of parked cars on either side of the road and obstructing the view of the shoulder and sidewalk (and non-visible crosswalk markers), are not expecting there to be an active crosswalk at the Wall St entrance along College St. I respectfully request additional infrastructure/design considerations for this crosswalk.
  • 1-13 Wooster Pl New Haven, CT, 06511, USA - Wooster Square

Cars often turn onto Wooster pl and use it as a cut through to get to Olive or Grand Ave. Often these cars are speeding and have no regard for pedestrians. I've been nearly hit about 2X a week since moving here.

We need seed bumps around the park to stop people from speeding.

The crossing from Wooster square Park across chapel street is also dangerous and at least needs blinking lights or ideally a raised crosswalk.

The crossing at Olive and court even though it has lights is still dangerous. I saw someone hit there last month.

    Hope you can help!

  • 36 Nash St New Haven, Connecticut, 06511 - East Rock

Car crash in the corner of Nash St and Lawrence St.

This intersection is dangerous and routinely problematic. Cars pulling out of Nash often have their site line blocked by cars parked in Lawrence. They often have to pull into the middle of Lawrence St to see if there is crossing traffic.

Cars in Lawrence routinely travel 40-50 mph down the street.
Cars coming in Nash similarly are traveling quite fast, and generally rolling through the stop sign and cross walk.

A traffic study and some traffic calming measures would make a HUGE impact here.

  • 50 Lyon St New Haven, CT, 06511, USA - Wooster Square
There is excessive speeding on Lyon St and often going in the wrong direction, it is a one way street. Lyon St is a heavily used pedestrian street by children and elderly citizens. Enhanced signage in addition to what exists (One-Way + Local Traffic Only) is needed and perhaps even speed humps.
  • Chapel St & Depalma Ct New Haven, CT, 06511, USA - Wooster Square

It would be great for the neighborhood if a raised crosswalk with a signal could be installed crossing chapel here.

From my personal experience, cars do not stop for pedestrians despite the placement of recent signage. A sign warning cars may be fine in other cities, but in New Haven, cars are more likely to speed up when they see you in a crosswalk rather than stop.

A raised sidewalk would also help the many neighborhood visitors cross the street safely to enjoy pizza in the park.

    Thanks for your help

  • 15 Lexington Ave New Haven, CT, 06513, USA - Fair Haven Heights
The traffic backed up out of the school at 9am creates a line through two intersections, and around a corner. and then people not waiting in the line for the school try and go around by going in the other lane. it's a huge mess.
  • 111-111 Water St New Haven, CT, 06511, USA - Wooster Square
Can we get some speed bumps or something? There is constant racing, speeding, noise all the way up and down Water street. After the death on Sargent, I’m hoping the city gets serious about this road
  • 1 Franklin Street New Haven, Connecticut - Wooster Square
There is an exposed pipe coming out of the road on Franklin between Water and Wooster street. It looks like if it is hit right it will damage a vehicle. Please help fix or cover this pipe.
  • 360 Fountain St New Haven, Connecticut, 06515 - Westville
I would like an all way traffic light placed at the intersection of Fountain and W Prospect, we have a high volume of elderly and several disabled residents in our community. There is only one stop sign at this intersection and the speeding two way traffic on Fountain makes it difficult for people to cross, turn and flow into traffic. I think this intersection is dangerous even driving up Fountain from Forest Ave as it is a hill that you cannot see incoming traffic until you have reached W Prospect. Please hear my petition and view this intersection.
  • 400 College St New Haven, CT 06511, USA - Downtown
Can Yale look into providing better loading and loading space here? Trucks are always forced to make deliveries while blocking both the bike and car lanes, making it dangerous for everyone.
