You do not say what intersection you are talking about but i am assuming it is at the end of main street where the road to the town museum is. If that is the intersection you mean it will never happen as there is not enough traffic to justify the expense.
Unless there have been a lot of accidents there i doubt they will put a light there due to the high cost. I use that intersection usually when going to Margaretville and the line of sight is good from both directions. Of course if the person does not cross quickly (it is 4 lanes after all) and you cannot just putt putt across you have to move fast.
There are accidents there and at the entrance of Belleayre, trust me, I have lived here permanently for over 15 years and have watched them as I live on a hill to see all of route 28 for 2 or more seasons.
I have lived in the town of shandaken for about 20 years now and i knew that there were lots of accidents at the road to Belleayre but not that intersection. Maybe you should start a petition on one of those petition sites to see if you can get that changed. Another suggestion would be to make no left hand turns out of elm street heading west up the hill and no left turns out of birch creek road heading east.
