Can one person from the police or city government explain to me why there is no enforcement of any traffic regulations? We continually have a speeding issue by bikes and cars. Speed limit is 25 mph. Our safety is ruined by reckless drivers hurtling down this straight stretch any sunny day, summer evening, or late night. You can't trust crosswalks then (ps - we need new signs - they always disappear in the winters) given there's no way the maniacs could stop in time hurtling past Grand.

Back when Vinny was heading up our community policing he said something about "we've got some radar guns coming I've requested for our local beat cops" but I've never seen anyone since then handing out a ticket.

Without enforcement, we don't have speed limits. Safety and quality of life is out of the window. Family neighborhood out the window.

So, I'd just like to see one answer from someone responsible for this issue to our community: why never any enforcement on Q-av? Why have I seen cops on harleys at spots downtown where running through crosswalks at 70 has to be impossible, but never in our neighborhood?

Dear neighbours in condo association - could someone contact 624 quinnipiac ave to talk about the shared chain link fence? A light (white or silver) van ran into it on the condo side when it was snowing the other day and busted two poles out of their sockets, bowing the metal chains. I don't know who owns the fence - we should talk about fixing it. Thanks

Glass window or storm window panes (3) dropped in our drive Friday morning. I drove over as they were hidden when coming over the hill, called the City public works who said they'd call back. No reply. Guess I will sweep up and dump in the trashcan on corner. Please name and shame if any idea who left these here creating a hazard.

My car was towed on an even-numbered side of the street, and from what is not a snow emergency route from the City map! http://www.cityofnewhaven.com/trafficparking/pdfs/Snow%20Emergency%202013.pdf

This is pretty ridiculous. I phoned non-emergency number and they don't even know where it is.

Could we get a speed bump in front of the road to nature reserve or in front of the commercial property (auto shop/old petrol station)? The sound could not possibly bother anyone at night, and it would help reduce speeding down Q ave.

Also: police, how about occasionally doing some visible ticketing of speeding? What do we need to do to get fines from speeding tickets going to help the city budget?

We need a speed bump in front of the school and occasional enforcement of speed laws would be nice too. Speed bump here would stop bikers speeding down Q-ave and tearing it up on their way back to East Haven.

The city must fine Alderman Dow AND require them to clean up the mess they are leaving on public property. This public street does not belong to the dump but they are acting as if it does and apparently not penalized. Broken glass all over the road, other trash. No good. New Haven - please enforce the laws on the books.

I would like the city to ticket people for dropping trash everywhere here. But if you aren't going to ticket people sh*^!ing in their own backyard (or who knows, maybe they don't live here) then at least send street sweepers. I went past on Sunday morning, trash everywhere on the road.

We need a replacement pedestrian crossing sign. The last one's been gone for a few months since the last snow. I posted this in a different category a couple weeks ago and no action from City. Please put in the right category if this is the wrong one.

We lost the pedestrian crosswalk sign in one of the big snow plow jobs. Need a replacement over here, thanks.

The sidewalks on bridge are still unwalkable. I see people having to walk dangerously in traffic on raod. It's a shame the people responsible in City govt. don't ....

I didn't see who dumped this LCI would be great if you could check in on that as well as cleaning it up. Is there a prize for city with most dumped old furniture and residents ignoring bulk pick-up services? Because I think we're winning it.

    Thanks

Cars scrape on top of driveway after the roadwork that was done by the City. I thought it was just my car but I just found out other people's do it too. I need you to come back and do it properly. It is the new asphalt you laid next to the pavement in the driveway of 624 - you will see a visible hump. Cars can't go down if more than one person in the car without scraping the underside.

Please let me know if I need to report this under a different category. Thanks

This light currently has a "no turn on red arrow". I sit there with no oncoming traffic waiting for the couple seconds of green arrow. All other turning arrow lights I know of around here and in Fair Haven are leading green, i.e. if no oncoming traffic you can still go - the green arrow isn't replaced by a red to stop you going. This works fine everywhere else, it will work fine here.

signs in middle of road at every crosswalk up and down Q-av south of Grand - should help calm traffic. Cars don't stop for pedestrians, this could also help that too. I think this is city policy - I see them on similar crossings on Front St.

A pack of around 6 heading south at 1pm. Then an hour later they came back from east haven after picking up their dates for a Sunday afternoon. Probably around 20 heading north on Q av an hour later.

Anyone heard an update on if we're getting any _additional_ laws to police the issue and on timing - will we see benefits to neighborhoods this summer?

Also in terms of existing laws that are being broken, driving without a license, recklessly etc., I just checked up on youtube for the latest. I'm assuming police are regularly going online to pick them all up but just in case plenty of good close-ups of faces here: http://youtu.be/tNoWGDp--CE

Can we occasionally have speed limits enforced up and down Quinnipiac Av? It would be great if people didn't feel like they can do whatever speed they like down here - can we borrow a radar gun one day or just an afternoon every month to make this less of a speedway?
  • 558-620 Quinnipiac Avenue New Haven, CT - Fair Haven Heights
There are no signs posting the speed limit - I don't even know for sure, is it 25? We have an electronic read out giving drivers their speeds but nothing telling them what they should be doing. It would help to have a speed limit sign just around here before people start tearing down Q av
