Description

Request to install multiple speed humps on Pinehurst Avenue. Drivers tend to use this street as a thruway to the highway and they drive at speeds of 50-60 mph frequently. Many children live and ride their bikes, roller skate and ride scooters on this street and multiple times I’ve seen speeding drivers come close to hitting them. It’s not safe for so many thru traffic drivers to drive so fast down this street, especially since there’s a blind hill right where most of the children play. We even had a drunk driver speed and crash recklessly into multiple cars last Easter. Someone’s son or daughter is going to die from being hit by a speeder/racer and also almost everyone who lives here want to deter thru traffic from using our residential street to get to the on ramp for I-84. We’d all prefer if thru traffic used main roads like Osgood, Slater, and Clinton to access I-84. Also drivers coming down Pershing have no stop sign and yet drivers stopped on Pinehurst Ave at the intersection with Pershing Ave constantly run the stop sign. I have witnessed almost accidents there at least 3 times already today. Many Gaffney Elementary School children walk home using our street and they are absolutely not at all safe doing so. Please strongly consider installing multiple speed humps to ensure children pedestrians are safe in this neighborhood and walking home from school. No amount of extra temporary patrolling seems to work and as soon as police stop taking notice the speeders go back to it. Nothing seems to be enough to stop them except speed humps. Don’t be known as the city that ignored this issue and carelessly allowed someone’s child to be struck and killed by a reckless speeding driver, please.

- sincerely, mother of two children and concerned citizen
