The left turn lights at 19mile & Garfield are dangerous as people try to turn with the blinking yellow light or are in the middle of the intersection when the left turn light changes from blinking yellow to red.
Who ever are putting these turn lights up are not following MDOT's ways because the turn lights are not suppose to be blinking yellow then go to red. It's suppose to be solid yellow then red. Many lights are like this across the county and people think the lights will turn green because MDOT says after a blinking yellow arrow it will turn to a green arrow.
I work at 19 and Garfield and use this intersection everyday. I am amazed that there has only been half a dozen accidents since they put this light up. I figured there would have been at least 40-50 accidents by now. Stupidest light I have ever seen.
The new lights are too many and confusing! The blinking yellow arrow some times are mistaken for solid yellow and drivers get caught in the middle of the intersection on red the on comming traffic will not let you clear! The new lights & cameras cost too much and are ambiguous.
The camera controlled traffic lights are a great concept, but they have made driving very dangerous during heavy traffic conditions.
As David said they confuse many drivers, you never really know what the oncoming lanes see.
T make matters worse, the sequence changes from morning to night. I suggest we go back to normal sequenced traffic lights during rush hours.
The problem is the lights turn red for one side, like westbound, but not for eastbound. So people turning south onto Garfield from 19 Mile think it's okay to go. But it's not. These lights do not work like almost every other intersection in Michigan. When one side goes red, the other side does. Not here. Causes lots of accidents,
Shouldn't southbound Garfield have a "no turn on red" sign? Many times while trying to turn west onto 19 from northbound Garfield, almost ran into someone who was turning on red.
