The City of Oakland Public Works Department has received this issue. It is registered as service request # 517826. Thank you, in advance, for your patience as we work through a backlog of pothole service requests. Unfortunately the City does not have enough funding to repave all streets in poor condition. With limited funding, our response to resurfacing requests is limited to minor pavement and pothole repairs only. Our Street Maintenance Department will assess your street and determine whether temporary measures might be appropriate. Please understand that this work may be limited to pothole or other minor repairs, and that we have many similar requests. We will do our best to respond in a timely manner. The backlog of streets in Oakland needing pavement currently is $435 million and growing.

This IS NOT a pot hole...it's a deep square hole that was CUT in the pavement and there's a shallower trench that runs back to the curb. Impossible to see in the dark. Hard to see in daylight as there's no orange cone or marking on the pavement., I reported this issue over 2 weeks ago; is the property owner responsible for the problem? It's an accident waiting to happen...,
Although the pothole is bad; a more important issue that I would like addressed first is speeding on High Street. Speeding all along High Street is a big risk to the safety of bikers and pedestrians. People speeding on High Street appear to simply crossing through our neighborhood to get to Hwy 13, the Safeway, Merritt College or their homes in the Hills. What can be done to reduce use and car speed on this section of High Street?
While we're discussing safety issues on High Street, I would like to see some signage -- at least a YIELD sign -- at the top of High where it intersects with Tompkins, warning drivers making a left onto Tompkins that traffic coming from the right does not stop. Currently there is nothing. People drive pretty fast along Tompkins from Carlson to High, and visibility is not good because of the planted median. For anyone unfamiliar with how the intersection works, it's quite dangerous.
TO CC & S.G. Both your points are very important. Please "re-issue" your comments on a new posting.
BTW, just received an emailed notice from citywworker@ oaklandnet.com that the"hole' issue has been fixed & closed...haven't seen it yet, hope so. (originally reported April 17, 2014, 10;26 pm )
Hi. I'm new to this system of reporting potholes and other problems to the City of Oakland. I just received an email that this particular issue had been addressed, at least administratively. Today is 10/12/2018. The original report was in May of 2014. Just saying. That's a long time to wait.
