Abandoned for over two years now I believe, this house is a blight on our street. Construction debris in driveway and in open garages, dead tree in front, lawn untended, no snow removal, windows open, etc.
I was not able to attend the East Shore Management Team meeting, so I do not know what, if anything, LCI is doing. The neighbors are mowing the lawn to keep it respectable, but it still looks awful. The property was condemned for mold, and the owners live in NY and do not answer the phone. What is the city doing? We'd all like to know.
We are currently sending a Civil Citation out to the property owners which will result in a $100 a day fine. This allows us to take care of certain things such as securing any areas that are open to trespass and cutting down overgrowth. Please, if you see that the property is overgrown, "Do Not Cut" it; that's trespassing. You can call us and we will clean it, then put a lien on the property in the amount of the costs.
The grass is overgrown, there is a dead tree out front, window or two open, and it still looks horrible, and we see no activity whatsoever.
Has the citation been issued? If so, when? What was the response? What does the city plan to do if there is no response?
I have told my neighbor to not cut the grass or weed-whack the huge weeds all along their driveway and out to the back. This blight is affecting us all. Strangers have been parking in the driveway at random, bit not going in the house. We do not believe it is alarmed at present. We need answers. Thank you.
Still looks the same. How do we find out from the city what is happening? The neighbors mow the lawn and the huge weeds in the driveway. It's big-time blight.
LCI, or someone, finally came and boarded up the garages with plywood, so it looks a little better - emphasis on little.
The side still looks terrible, with overturned trash cans, yellow tape, debris.
They did not shovel their snow, as usual.
There is a half-open window in back.
If they have been getting a $100 a day fine, as LCI said on 6/11/2018 above - what is the effect? Nothing in the outward appearance of the abandoned property has changed except the garages.
The dead tree growing in front looks terrible, and the fact that it is dark at night make it clear to everyone - abandoned property.
Still a work in progress, I guess. The steps have been fixed but the garages and the rest of the house look bad - open windows, dead tree, weeds and overgrown driveway - it's shouting "ABANDONED PROPERTY" every day, and it attracts copper thieves, etc. Not Good - I'd like to hear from LCI on the "fines" and the progress, which we see onoy every few months, if that. owners live in NY.
Same as in October, no visible movement. WE the neighbors would like the city to inform us of what is going on at that address.
In June of 2018, LCI said they were beginning to fine the owners $100 a day... this is probably not happening, right? Have they been given extensions? What is the next step? What is the city going to do to get this property back on the tax rolls?
Maybe the new mayor will help LCI go through their files and we will get some action?
We don't have anything against the owners, and a lot of this is none of our business - however, we are neighbors and we do deserve some answers from the city on what is happening, or what is planned, for this apparently abandoned property that is owned but not active. It continues to be a blight issue, and takes away from our property value and the appearance of our street and neighborhood.
Good morning. The property is vacant and secured except for one small window near the basement that an animal could squeeze through. We will make sure that gets secured as well. The property is simple vacant at this point which doesn't constitute a blight.
Thank you for the reply. However, there is also an open window in the back on the second floor, and a boarded up window at ground level in back. The garages are boarded up with plywood, one painted, one half-painted, the other bare wood. There is a dead tree in front. No-one shovels the snow. There are often flyers hanging on the door, litter in the yard (we pick it up) a downspout in the driveway, flashing on the front step - it just says "Vacant" to anyone walking by. We are still not informed about the present status or future of this house, empty for over 2 years now?
We who live near this house on Townsend Ave. consider it a blighted house. We have heard that thieves have entered and taken the copper pipes. Anyone walking down our street can tell it is vacant and uncared for.
The garages look terrible, there is no railing on the side steps, there is iften trash in the driveway or in front - we keep it clean. Still vacant, still looks like a blighted property to us. Window in back on 2nd floor is open, as noted before.
We see very occasional activity from the absent landlord. The lights that were on out front recently are back out. There is a door in the driveway, a downspout, half-painted plywood on the garage doors, debris, uncut grass...
WE don't know who cuts the grass once in a while. Weeds are 2 ft high in the back, and it looks like the basement window has been entered. There is a door in the driveway, downspouts, an open window on 2nd floor. Looks bad.
Grass is over a foot high out front, misc. things in driveway and weeds a yard high in back. Neglect and blight, no question about it. Sad that the city is doing nothing to push this owner, as it is a 3-family empty house.
Mr. Morbidelli, the "grass" in the back of this property is 3 ft high, and the property is not being maintained, with ripped screens, open windows, litter in the driveway. The neighbor mows the lawn - we think. What is the future of this property? Indefinite vacancy as long as the owners pay taxes?
Since blight is going to be an ever-increasing issue in New Haven, perhaps the alders could consider changing the laws to speed up condemnation and seizure of properties for taxes or for neglect. The City just racks up costs now of upkeep and city staff's attention. Seize the property , fix and sell with strict conditions on how the new owner MUST improve and maintain the property. Change the laws!
Just stopped in to check on the property this morning. Reaching out to the owners to have them clear out any debris/junk, board broken windows and cut overgrown vegetation. If they can't complete it within the deadline we may have to do. Also there is no violation for a house being vacant.
