Description
Can we occasionally have speed limits enforced up and down Quinnipiac Av? It would be great if people didn't feel like they can do whatever speed they like down here - can we borrow a radar gun one day or just an afternoon every month to make this less of a speedway?

It would be great to know this. Without this information, there's no way to show that anything is being done.
To that end, dozens of residents and elected officials, including representatives from all 12 of the Community Management Teams in each New Haven neighborhood, requested information on neighborhood traffic enforcement about 16 months ago in a letter to the Mayor.
The request was a follow up to the 2008 Safe Streets Petition, which requested " Beginning in the 3rd Quarter of 2008 and continuing once every quarter, issue a citywide public report on the above two measures, including metrics on enforcement actions taken by neighborhood and number and type of penalties issued;" and was signed by more than 2,200 residents, plus 35 elected officials, and 100 local organizations and businesses.
The Mayor promised the information in his reply to last year's letter. Unfortunately none has been provided, despite repeated additional requests.

I didn't know the history, thanks Mark... maybe the Mayor isn't quick to reply with information because it is either embarrassing or difficult to collect. I hope we can hear from the challenger candidates what their positions are in the next election.
The bumps on Lexington av are a joke - did they run out of material to make actual speed bumps?

Well Mark I do know a few people in the neighborhood and word passes quickly around here in this small part of town so I think I'm safe so say speeding has not been enforced in the Heights in a long, long time. DMD9 would know better, maybe he could pipe up about this sore subject.
Did you know District 9 doesn't own radar guns?

Brian- there are two of those radar signs within a block of each other on Quinnipiac heading north from Ferry St and I can say that the first one near the roundabout is the start line of the race and the second one is the finish line. All I see is the lighted signs myself, if there are speed limit signs they need to be enforced or they are useless.
DMD9?

Yes - I don't see any speed limit signs on the "racing" stretch - so I made a separate post to the Signs part of this website asking for some simple speed limit signs around/under the fancy expensive ones telling you how fast your'e going. It would at least be a reminder you're meant to be doing 25 (I wasn't sure whether 25 or 30 for example, not that it makes a difference if you're doing 40-50).
It seems like traffic enforcement would be easy money for the city just like they seem to have hired a lot more parking ticket people over the last five years, but apparently speeding ticket money doesn't go to the city so they have no financial incentive and don't want safe streets just for the sake of it? Traffic cops would pay for themselves otherwise. If I'm going to have to eat parking tickets all the time for leaving the car somewhere 10 minutes too long it would be nice to have more safety-related laws enforced.

Has anyone heard back from Rob Smuts, NHPD, or others at the City regarding the issue of tracking enforcement activity?
I know people are trying to follow up on the requests, but apparently getting an answer from the City is about as easy as getting one from a stone wall, even when thousands of people request it.

Can't tell you how many times I have nearly been rear ended turning into my driveway on Q Ave, by someone going 20+ miles over the speed limit. And god forbid there be a pedestrian crossing the driveway as I'm turning in otherwise I probably would be rear ended every time, stopping so they can cross.
Recently, I have also seen cars crossing the double yellow lines to pass cars that are already going over the speed limit. I was doing 32mph a few weeks ago and had an Escalade attached to my bumper. When we got near the Hemingway Ave intersection, he decided to pass, going into oncoming traffic to do so. WTF??!!
And what is the deal with people riding around everywhere with their high beams on? I am constantly being blinded at night by cars driving down Q Ave with their high beams on. It's seems to be the new trend. Even though they don't have any burnt out lights. Inconsiderate....
Sorry for the rant!
